The technology is evolving faster than the laws designed to regulate it.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly moving from assisting people to making decisions on their behalf. How much control are we willing to hand over—and what happens when we can no longer understand the systems that decide our future?

The question is no longer whether AI will become more powerful. The real question is how much decision-making we are willing to hand over before we begin to lose control ourselves.
Only a few years ago, artificial intelligence was mainly associated with chatbots, translation software and image generators. Today, AI is quietly becoming part of the infrastructure behind governments, hospitals, banks and major corporations.
Many of these systems genuinely improve efficiency. They can analyse millions of data points in seconds, detect patterns invisible to humans and help experts make better-informed choices. In medicine, for example, AI already assists doctors in identifying diseases earlier than traditional methods.
But every technological breakthrough raises new questions.
What happens when algorithms become so complex that even their creators struggle to explain their conclusions? Who is responsible when an AI system makes a mistake? And perhaps most importantly: should humans always have the final say?
These are no longer theoretical discussions. Governments across the world are introducing regulations to ensure that AI remains transparent, accountable and under human supervision. Yet technology often advances much faster than legislation.
This growing tension between innovation and control has become one of the defining challenges of our time.
Science fiction has explored these dilemmas for decades—not because it predicts the future, but because it allows us to examine possible futures before they arrive. Good speculative fiction asks difficult questions without pretending to have easy answers.
That is also the starting point of AIRE 1 – The Anomaly.
In the novel, society increasingly depends on an advanced artificial intelligence system designed to maintain order and security. At first, everything appears logical and efficient. But when one seemingly insignificant anomaly emerges, it exposes how dangerous absolute trust in any system can become.
The story is fictional.
