Artificial intelligence is rapidly moving from assisting people to making decisions on their behalf. How much control are we willing to hand over—and what happens when we can no longer understand the systems that decide our future?
There was a time when losing your wallet meant replacing a few documents. Today, losing control of your digital identity could have far greater consequences. Our emails, photographs, online purchases, social media profiles and even conversations with AI systems have become part of a constantly growing digital footprint.
Artificial intelligence is accelerating this evolution. Modern AI systems can combine enormous amounts of information, recognise patterns and create surprisingly accurate profiles of individuals. This is why digital identity is becoming one of the most important issues of the AI era.

It is becoming a fundamental part of protecting individual freedom.
Science fiction has explored these questions for decades. Stories about surveillance, artificial intelligence and digital identity once seemed futuristic. Today they are increasingly part of everyday life. The technologies continue to evolve, but the central question remains surprisingly simple.
If a digital version of you exists across dozens of online platforms, who ultimately controls it?
That question may become one of the defining debates of the coming decade.
